Recently a large motorcycle parts
manufacturer came to us for a robotic welding solution. We used our
standard IR2000 production cell base, added a Motoman SK16X robot with XRC
control, a Miller Auto Axxess MIG power supply, and a Binzel WHP455
air-cooled robotic welding torch. The cell has a headstock-tailstock
positioner on Side1 provided by Motoman. This positioner is using
coordinated motion. Side2 has a flat table tooled up to run a
different set of parts than on Side1. The automated torch
cleaner is by Ream Master and we added our own wire clipper and nozzle
anti-spatter spray.
The cell is setup with automated welding / machine guard windows that raise
and lower upon cycle start and completion. The operator is protected
from pinch points of the moving equipment by STI light curtains.
We developed custom tooling for both stations on this cell. Using
proximity sensors we are able to weld two parts per side, one part per side,
and also check for part present - using one program instead of multiple
routines.
We were able to double the customer's production rate using this machine.
