Due to a dangerous ergonomic job, a local
manufacturer needed a solution to hang 80lb. tubes on a
paint-line conveyor. We chose the ABB IRB6000 S3 M93 120kg industrial
robot for the job because of the great bang for the buck it offers.
This company was limited on funds, and the IRB6000 fit the budget.
The robot picks tubes from two different welding lines that have custom
presentation and location devices. When a tube is present, the robot
knows where and when to pick one up. The robot only has 10 seconds to
complete a cycle because the paint line conveyor never stops. The
hooks are located by proximity sensors so the robot knows when to drop the
tube into position.
The gripper is a custom design and utilizes very heavy duty pneumatic
gripping devices, along with tool steel fingers. This tool
accommodates parts that vary in outside diameter without the need for a
tooling changeover.
